ELEMENTAL

Every living thing and every person embodies a unique combination of the five Elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water.

The patterns of movement that create and sustain all living things and resource Qi are expressed by the generating and controlling relationship of these Elements. Together, the five Elements help us understand the process of dynamic harmony and balance which must be maintained to vitalize a person’s system of energy.

“We may find people without reserves, people without purpose, people without any essence and vital spark within them, people without nourishment, and people without the warmth of joy and love. when we can understand the elements at this level we shall be able to understand our patients at the very heart of their distress” j.r. worsley

Wood

Spring is associated with the Wood element and symbolizes a season of birth and regeneration. The energy is upbearing and effusive. When the Wood element is in balance, communication is healthy and there is ease in flexibility.

Fire

Summertime is the season of the Fire element - it brings warmth, joy, fullness and maturity. Fire’s energy is always moving upward. What lies at the core of this element is the love that Fire pours into everything. When the fire element is in balance, the warmth of this love helps everything to flow on all levels.

Earth

Nourishment and harvest characterize the late summer Earth element. Earth represents the sowing and reaping of the substrate upon which all things are born, a bringing forth of all of phenomena. When Earth is in balance, there is contentment.

Metal

Autumn, the season of the Metal element, is a time of purification and reform. Metal is the working of change, allowing old and dying material to fall away downwards as it also takes in new material from above to fill the space. When Metal is imbalance, there is a strong understanding of self.

Water

Everything is washed clean and bare in winter, the season of Water. The downward motion of energy in the winter makes everything appear still, cold, quiet and lifeless. When the Water element is in balance, we seek wisdom.
